AslanStudies

Aslan Studies · by Yume Huang

A full life,
and a rested one.

I learned the long way that you don't have to choose. Here I share what helped me remember who I am, in case it helps you remember too.

Why Aslan

Even lions rest.

20hours a day: how long a lion can spend resting.

Aslan means lion. And the lion, the strongest animal in the wild, spends most of its life at rest. It isn't weakness. Rest is how it stays strong.

That's the heart of everything here. Strength and rest were never opposites. You're allowed both.

What I've learned

Six things that helped me, in case they help you.

These aren't rules. They're what I found in my own life first, and then in the research. Hold on to whatever feels true for you.

01

Support before effort

I used to rely on trying harder. What finally helped was building small supports around my days, so the effort could get lighter.

Try thisPick one thing you decide every day, and decide it once for the whole week.

02

Rest made room for everything else

My clearest thinking comes after rest, not in the middle of the grind. Once I stopped treating rest as a reward, everything else got easier.

Try thisBefore a big decision, rest first: a walk, a nap, a night’s sleep. Then decide.

03

Listening to my body first

I couldn't think my way out of patterns my body was holding. When I calmed my body first, my mind followed.

Try thisNext time you feel rushed, ask what you notice in your body before you ask what to do.

04

Patterns as messengers

The things that kept repeating in my life were trying to tell me something. Listening to them helped more than fighting them.

Try thisName one thing that keeps repeating, and ask what it might be protecting.

05

Honest about how I really am

For a long time I made everything look fine, even when I was running on empty. Telling the truth about how I was really doing, starting with myself, is what made life feel light.

Try thisNext time someone asks how you are, notice what's actually true before you answer.

06

Remembering who I am

I didn't need to become someone new. I needed to remember who I was before I got so used to being strong for everyone. For me, most of that remembering happened in prayer and in quiet.

Try thisWrite down three things you loved before anyone told you who to be.

How we work

We are builders, not heroes.

Aslan Studies isn't here to fix anyone. No one here is broken, so there's no rescue, and no one to rescue.

I won't play the hero in your story, and you don't have to be the hero in anyone else's. We're builders, you and me both. I share the research and the tools. You build, at your own pace, in your own way.

Structure First

The hidden systems running your mind, body and work.

Why do the same patterns keep coming back, even when you understand them and truly want to change? The book's answer: how you live and work depends less on effort and motivation, and more on the structure underneath. Your nervous system. What your body has learned to expect. How your energy is wired. Your stage of growth. The systems around you.

It doesn't hand you another routine. It shows you what's running underneath every routine you've tried, because you can't build what you can't see.

Why you can trust it

Built on named research

Every idea traces back to researchers and published records named in the text, so you can look them up yourself.

Real, documented stories

The examples come from history, like Phineas Gage and Eleanor Roosevelt. No invented case studies, no testimonials.

Tested in practice

Everything in it was tested on my own life first, and in years of building operations for real businesses.

Honest about its limits

I'm a researcher and lived-experience practitioner, not a clinician. The book is for understanding and reflection, not treatment.

Researchers in its pages includeViktor Frankl · Peter Levine · Stephen Porges · Bessel van der Kolk · Dan Siegel · John Bowlby · Mary Ainsworth · Robert Kegan · Lisa Laskow Lahey · Carl Jung · Graham Wallas · Jay Forrester · Donella Meadows · Peter Senge

True alignment

When how you live matches who you are.

For me, alignment wasn't a feeling to wait for. It came from four simple steps I call the 4 A's. You're welcome to borrow them, and to change them to fit you.

First

Awareness

Notice what's actually true right now: in your days, your body, your relationships, without judging any of it.

What is really here?

Second

Audit

Find what's running underneath. The pattern that keeps returning is information, not proof that something is wrong with you.

What keeps coming back, and why?

Third

Action

Build one gentle structure at a time. Small enough to keep, strong enough to hold you on a hard day.

What is one thing I can build?

Fourth

Alignment

Keep checking that the way you live still fits who you are, and change it gently when it doesn't.

Does this still fit me?

Rest was never meant to wait until later.

I used to believe that rest was for later, after the business, after the kids grew up, after everything was finally handled. Later never came. What came instead was a life I was too tired to enjoy.

Now I protect my rest the way I used to protect my deadlines, and I have more energy for the people and the work I love than I have ever had. That's what I want for you.

The quiet part

Underneath all of it,
I learned to listen.

Structure helped me. Rest helped me. What held it all together was quieter than both: time with the Divine, and time with myself. Whatever you call what's bigger than you, you're welcome here. I won't tell you what to believe. I'll only share what I practice.

In stillness

Meditation and prayer

Most of my days begin in stillness, with a little meditation and prayer to the Divine. It's where I remember that I'm not holding everything up on my own.

Try thisBefore you reach for your phone, sit for five minutes and breathe. If you pray, begin there, in your own words.

In reflection

Walking, writing, looking inward

Walks and journaling are how I hear myself think. I also keep regular time just to look inward, and I protect it like any other appointment.

Try thisTake one walk this week without headphones. When you get home, write down whatever came up.

In the everyday

Checking in, and choosing again

It doesn't end when I stand up. Through the day I check my energy and my capacity, shift my focus on purpose, and notice when I've gone reactive, so I can gently move back to proactive.

Try thisTwice today, pause and ask: how much do I have in me right now, and am I reacting or choosing?

For me, the quiet and the everyday turned out to be the same practice.

About

Hi, I'm Yume.

For years I poured everything into the people and the work I loved. What I didn't do was save any for myself. Eventually that caught up with me, and I had to start again from the ground up.

What helped me wasn't trying harder. It was understanding what was running underneath, and building gentle structure around it. I spent years studying how we think, rest, decide and grow, and I tested everything on my own life before I believed it.

I put what I learned into a book and a small library of tools. That's what you'll find here, along with a door that's always open if you'd like to write to me.

With love,
Yume

Write to me

I'd love to hear from you.

I love people. The honest conversations, the moment someone feels seen, the stories that remind me none of us is doing this alone. If something here moved you, or you're somewhere in your own story right now, tell me.

I read every letter myself, and I reply when I can. This isn't coaching or a sales call. It's just two people talking.
